Agreed with most. Although, I think Farming is perfectly fine now. You should NOT be expecting 150+ herbs per farm run lol, I saw that boost for a few days as a bonus after the unreasonable few days of low herbs from patches. Herb farming is exactly where it should be now.

I'd just like to add that it's pretty unreasonable to make these massive changes while simultaneously running competitions for first to max. There's absolutely no way you should be taking away meta training methods when only a select few have been able to take advantage. I'm still unsure as to how people who abused the blast furnace didn't have their Smithing level reset. Anybody who rushed to load 5k ores into the Blast Furnace CLEARLY knew they were abusing a bug and had to get their 99 before it was patched lol.

I do think the minimum should be increased, couple of times i had 6 herbs from a ultracompost patch. heard others getting even less. this should be increased

The second point im unsure of, i've personally used blast furnace aswel. and while it was not how osrs did it. i can see it being mistaken for a rsps feature to be able to infinitely stack bars in there. so xp resetting might be a good idea, but i can kinda see where people were comming from using it.

And before you start flaming me, im 71 smithing.

  2. Im personally a big fan of the system where u can choose between spending a large amount and getting to instantly get the secondarys, or farm them up and get them for cheap/free but with more time consumption. but i must agree that the more time consuming method shouldn't be this insanely different. I'm certain that this rate was unintended and have confidence that the team will change this soon to more fit the above mentioned balance between grind or pay.

this is due to not having enough/ the right beta/bug testers. at the time you guys were more excited to give youtubers and famous players access to the beta for free advertisement. There was not enough time put into finding game breaking mechanics, unfair advantages, and other malicious acts. there are still lots left.

I would put this blame more on the actual beta testers as wel. most beta testers didnt go through the slower, tedious grinds to find these bugs.

    Hi there,

I've been spit-balling what to do about this problem in my mind for the last little bit, and I've come to the conclusion that resetting peoples levels, or putting a bug back into the game isn't quite acceptable.

We're currently waiting on David's input into the matter before we make any moves, but to get some ideas rolling that don't involve resetting people or putting a bug back into the game, would taking away the 10x modifier on plank prices for ironmen be something we can chat about?

Good to see staff active on the forums.

understandable ofcourse. While i stand that lowering xp in the stated skills for people who specifically point out they want to participate in the competition would be a decent option. The lowering of the plank prices would also "fix" this issue to a certain extend.

I've offered this solution to hope before. and he mentioned that construction is and should be the most expensive skill in the game. which i agree to. current prices are a bit over the top. i would personally suggest lowering the modifier to 1 or 2x to allow people who havent abused bugs to catch up at a rougly simular rate (Taking into account here gathering gp and logs countering the lower xp rates of molten glass and limestone) .

I would however suggest to increase it after the competition is over. to a in my mind more reasonable 3-5x rate. but for that specific balancing all i ask is that ironman gp gathering problems are held into account.

  5. just to clear any issues with construction xp rates and costs required for 99

this calculation takes 99 as being 13m xp. it also assumes planks were obtained through plankmake (cheaper then sawmill)

prices might be slightly scuffed because of my donor rank. but should convey the point correctly. if your a non donor remove the discount

normal irons with 50x skilling xp rates.

    • Oak: 3000xp per plank. (13.000.000/3000= 4333,33) 4334 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 4334*1500= 6.5m
    • Teak:  4500xp per plank, 2889 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 8.6m
    • Mahogany: 7000xp per plank, 1857 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 16.7m

8x xprate irons (elite, ultimate etc)

    Oak: 480xp per plank. 27083 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 40.6m

    Teak: 720xp per plank.  18055 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 54.1m

    Mahogany: 1120xp per plank. 11607 planks needed for 99. Price for 99 = 104.4m

I agree patching the methods before the race is over is annoying, but at the same time, if you prioritized other skills when everyone and their mom knew about these methods, that's on you. We all knew they would be going at some point, just nobody knew when. Was it annoying for me when xp waste was 99 smithing and I only got 85 before BF was patched? Sure. But he also took off work to grind which is something I couldn't do, so he was going to be leagues ahead of me anyways. There's always going to be someone else with a slight advantage and I don't see how resetting xp to make up for that is helpful at this stage. Race is almost over afterall

"if you find a bug, make sure to quickly abuse it before it gets patched"

    Is that what your saying?

  8. While im personally not trying to go for the prizes. I support the fact that this is too much. I fully understand the need to fix these bugs as soon as possible. and fully agree that they were fixed.

To quote @Diamonds post. Ofcourse there will be bugs, and sometimes you have to accept it and move on, but does it not make much more sense then to remove smithing levels and construction levels. instead of allowing people to abuse these methods. Does that not send the message of: "If you find a bug, abuse it before it gets fixed" ? instead of the much prefered, if you find a bug, report it so it can be fixed.

I would highly suggest either removing experience from Elite irons that want to compete for the first max grind OR just removing the experience from everybody. of which i personally think the first option makes more sense.

You can't just change the methods so massively during a competition. if you do nothing about this you are rewarding people who abused a bug while punishing those who didn't
